🚀 Horizontal Centrifugal Pump Maintenance Guide – Keep Your Pumps Running Smoothly!
Proper maintenance is key to maximizing your pump’s lifespan and efficiency. Follow these 9 essential tips from JH PUMPS to avoid downtime and costly repairs! 🔧
✔ Rotate the shaft manually – it should move freely without sticking.
✔ Confirm motor rotation matches the pump’s arrow direction.
✔ For oil-lubricated bearings:
Fill with ISO VG46 oil (1/2 to 2/3 of the sight glass).
Top up the constant-level oiler completely.
✔ Open the inlet valve and vent valve to fill the pump (pre-heat for high-temp pumps!).
✔ Check:
Mechanical seal flush flow/pressure.
Leaks at seals, gaskets, or bearing isolators – fix before startup!
⚡ Always use soft-start/VFD to protect the motor.
🔧 Valve positions:
Inlet valve: Fully open.
Outlet valve: Closed or 25% open at startup.
✔ Gradually adjust the outlet valve to reach rated flow/pressure (per nameplate).
📊 Keep flow at 80–110% of rated capacity.
⚠️ Motor current must NEVER exceed the rated value!
🌡️ Temperature limits:
≤70°C (max +40°C above ambient).
🔧 Lubrication schedule:
Grease-lubed bearings:
Replace grease after 150–200 hrs (first run/repair).
Replenish every 1600 hrs (use #2 lithium grease for Chinese bearings).
Oil-lubed bearings:
Change oil every 5000 hrs.
Monitor sight glass/oiler levels weekly!
📉 Vibration limit: ≤4.5 mm/s (per GB/T 29531-2013).
🔧 If exceeded – STOP and inspect immediately!
🔍 Regularly check:
Mechanical seal flush flow/pressure/temp.
Leaks at gaskets, seals, or isolators.
🛑 Shut down if leaks appear!
🔄 Rotate backup pumps monthly (2+ full turns).
🔧 For multistage pumps: Rotate every 2 months (½–1 turn).
🛠️ Common replaceable parts:
Coupling bolts
Bearings & isolators
Mechanical seals
